Important Kindergarten Info

1.   Please label all of your child’s belongings such as coats, lunchboxes, backpacks, hats, etc.

2.   All money sent to school must be in an envelope or baggie with your child’s name, amount, and purpose.

3.   A folder will be sent home daily with your child’s behavior report for the day.  Please initial EVERYDAY and return the next morning.  This is our primary form of communication.  This folder will also contain items such as permission slips, lunch information, snack schedule, homework assignments, and other important class notes.

4.   Each child will have the opportunity to share snack with their classmates.  The snack schedule will be sent home monthly in the daily folder.  On their snack day, we ask that each child bring a healthy snack for the class.  If you forget to send snack on your child’s snack day, we will send a note to remind you to send snack for another day.

5.   If you need to change your child’s afternoon transportation, you MUST send a written note.  Without a note, your child will be sent home in their usual manner.  This is to help ensure your child’s safety.  Also, it is very important to establish routines so that your child feels comfortable.

6.   Kindergarten children will be required to complete a daily homework assignment.  These assignments will require parental supervision.  Each activity should take no more than 10-15 minutes.  We ask that you INITIAL your child’s homework log daily.

7.   One of the most beneficial activities you can do with your child is READ!  Please read with your child every day.  While in Kindergarten, your child will participate in Guided Reading Groups and have experience with leveled readers.  This will help your child practice reading skills and reading comprehension.

8.   Rest is very important for a successful day.  We do not have nap time, so it is very important that your child get a good night’s rest.  Class begins at 7:45.

9.   If you have a problem or concern, please do not hesitate to let your child’s teacher know.  Communication is very important between teachers and parents.  You can contact your child’s teacher by phone during conference times, by sending notes in your child’s folder, and/or by e-mail.

10. As teachers our primary concern is for the safety of our students and creating an environment that is conducive to learning.  To do so, minimizing distractions to instruction is essential.  While we welcome parent visits to the campus to participate in the exciting events that occur here at the Primary School, any visits need to be limited by number and length of time, and scheduled in advance through the front office.  This will help to avoid any disruptions during the students’ learning time. Thank you for your help! J
