Week at a Glance: Dec 15-19

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Here is what we will be working on this week:
  • Phonics/Sight Words: -op word family, beginning and ending sounds, new sight word: as
  • Reading: Making text to text connections (comparing and contrasting stories) and talking about how we can read words
  • Writing: Writing about personal experiences
  • Math: Adding to 10
  • Social Studies: Holiday Traditions
Reminders:
  • Tomorrow is Polar Express Day.  Children are allowed to wear their pajamas, but no slippers please.  We will see a model train, hear the Polar Express story, and enjoy hot chocolate.
  • The children will be participating in a book exchange at our Christmas party.  Please send a wrapped, gender neutral book by Tuesday, December 16th.
  • Our Christmas party will be Thursday, December 18th at 1:30.  I sent home notes last week with what I need each child needs to bring.  Also, due to parking, we ask that no more than two guest per child attend.

Week at a Glance: December 1-5

I hope everyone enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday.  I really loved spending time with my family, but I am ready to get back into the swing of things.  Here is what we will be working on this week:
  • Phonics/Sight Words: Letters Mm and Tt, beginning sounds, new sight word: this 
  • Reading:  Making text to text connections (comparing and contrasting stories) and exploring characters
  • Writing:  Writing about personal experiences
  • Math: Numbers 11-15
  • Science: What are Natural Resources?
Reminders:
  • There is a G/T information meeting tomorrow night at 6:00.  If you would like to learn more about this program, please be sure to attend.
  • If you come eat lunch with your child, we ask that you stay in the cafeteria or at the picnic tables outside.  For safety reasons, please do not be in the hallways or the classrooms.
  • The weather is starting to get cooler.  You may want to send extra clothes that are winter appropriate for your child.  Also, please make sure your child has a jacket.  We try to go outside to play everyday!
  • Progress Reports for the 2nd 9 Weeks will be coming home soon, so be on the lookout.
  • Our class Christmas Party will be December 18th at 1:30, so mark your calendars.  More infor to come.

Week at a Glance: Nov. 4-7

I hope everyone had a great Halloween and a great weekend! I have definitely enjoyed the extra hour today!  Here is what we will be working on this week:
  • Language Arts: Letters Ii and Jj, new sight words: can, to, making text to text connections (comparing and contrasting stories), making a plan to share books with a buddy, writing to share, segmenting words into syllables, identifying beginning sound
  • Math: Adding and Subtracting within 5
  • Social Studies: Voting
  • Science:  Observing, describing, and sorting rocks
Reminders:
  • Tuesday, November 4th is the 50th day of school.  We will do some fun things to celebrate.  Your children can also dress up in their 50's gear.
  • If you would like to order pictures, please send in the order form as soon as you can!
  • Picture retakes will be November 11th.  If you want your child to retake their pictures, please return the proofs of the first picture.
  • Don't forget to send snack on your child's snack day.  We now have 22 students in the class.  Your child can also bring something for "Show and Tell" that day.

Week at a Glance: Oct. 27-31

I hope everyone had a great weekend!  Here is what we will be working on this week:
  • Language Arts:  Letters Dd and Oo, new sight words: on, said,  color word:white, understanding story structure, what to share with a reading buddy, writing to share, segmenting words into syllables, identifying beginning sound
  • Math:  Subtracting within 5
  • Social Studies: Technology and how it has changed

Reminders:  
  • Reading and Health Night is Monday, October 27th from 6-8.
  • Red Ribbon Week is this week.  Here are the daily themes:
    • Monday-  "Red Day!" Everyone wear red.
    • Tuesday- "Put a cap on drugs!" Wear a cap to show your spirit.
    • Wednesday- "Sock it to drugs!" Wear silly socks to chow your commitment to be drug free.
    • Thursday- "Drugs are unbearable.  Team up to win!" Team up for the fight against drugs by wearing a La Vernia Bears shirt.
    • Friday- "Say boo to drugs!" Wear a Halloween shirt to show your support.
  • Walk-a-thon is Friday, October 31st at 10:15.

Our Week at a Glance: Oct 6-10

Hello all!  Sorry for no post last week.  Here is what we will be working on this week:

  • Language Arts: Letters Qq and Uu, reviewing all sight words, being good reading partners, sequencing stories,
    writing and sharing stories, rhyming and syllables
  • Math:  Numbers 0-10, counting sets and comparing numbers and sets
  • Science: Exploring changes in matter when it is heated or cooled

Week at a Glance: Sept 22-26

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!  Here is what we will be working on this week:


    • Language Arts: Letters Nn, Ww, counting words is spoken sentences, color word- orange, sight words- we, be, Reviewing 3 ways to read a book (looking at pictures, retelling, and reading the words), tracking left to right, top to bottom, story structure, writing stories using pictures and labels
    • Math: Numbers 6 and 7
    • Sci/SS: Reviewing: What do good scientist do- observing, using tools, describing, comparing, etc.
    Reminders:
    • Book Fair is this week!  If you send money with your child, please make sure it is labeled.  The Book Fair will be opened M-Th from 7:30-6:00 and F 7:30-1:00.

    • Sci/SS: Identifying safe science practices and science tools

    • We will have a Bike Rodeo Tuesday, September 16th. More info coming soon!
    • School picture day is Wednesday, September 17th.
    • Please remember to check the snack calendar for your child's snack day. Also, they are allowed to bring a Show and Tell item to share with the class on their snack day.

    Our Week at a Glance Sept 2-5

    We had a fantastic first week of school.  The Fine Arts teacher even told me we were one of the best groups she saw all week.  Woohoo!  I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend.  My husband and I spent the weekend with family in Bryan celebrating one of our cousin's engagement.  We also watched a lot of college football.  The Aggies got their first win of the season, and it was a big one!  Here is what we will be working on this week:

    • Language Arts:  Letters Aa, Pp, name recognition, color word- yellow, sight words- a, I, identifying the parts of a book, and telling stories through pictures.
    • Math:  Numbers 0 and 1
    • Sci/SS:  Identifying places in our school and identifying the different jobs of people in our school.
