Our Week at a Glance: Jan 5-9 (And a few pictures too!)

I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas break! I enjoyed spending time with my family in beautiful Frisco, Colorado.  We had so much fun, but I was definitely ready to get back to warmer weather!

Here is what we will be working on this week:
  • Phonics/Sight Words: -et word family, beginning and ending sounds, sight word review
  • Reading: Making inferences, and How can patterns help us read?
  • Writing: Writing about personal narratives, We will being writing little books!
  • Math: Adding/subtracting to 10
  • Science: Weather
Reminders:
  • We try to go outside if it is possible because your children need to play. Please make sure your child is dressed for colder weather.

Here are a few pictures of some of our holiday activities.  Enjoy!

We learned all about holidays around the world.
In Mexico, they celebrate Christmas with Pinatas.



 In China, they celebrate the new year with fireworks and releasing lanterns into the night sky.


In Hawaii they greet each other with leis and say "Mele Kalikimaka" which means Merry Christmas.

 The tradition of decorating Christmas trees originated in Germany.


During Kwanzaa families use Mkekas (woven mats).  These mats represent their African heritage.


We also loved hearing the story of Polar Express and looking at the model train!
